Kernow Trek Lodge Self catering Apartments are minutes away from Cornwall’s most beautiful family beaches and stunning cliff walks. Great location, with easy access to the best surf spots and everything Cornwall has to offer. Just to name a few of our guests favourite places to visit ….. Watergate Bay; Mawgan Porth; St Mawgan village; Bedruthen Steps; Fistral Beach; Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen Restaurant; Eden Project; Padstow; St Ives; Port Isaac; Polzeath, Mevagissey; Polperro, St Agnes; Perranporth, St Michaels Mount; Truro …… there is always somewhere new to discover!
We are surrounded by beautiful beaches with golden sand and turquoise sea, rock pools and caves to explore. The best surf spots in the UK are right here on our door step. Take your pick from a host of great surfing beaches, from Fistral in Newquay, all along Cornwall’s North Coast to Harlyn Bay. Local cuisine is second to none – plenty of restaurants to choose between, from Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen at Watergate Bay, Rick Stein in Padstow, our local village pub, farm shop and tea rooms, to name but few! Peaceful countryside walks through fields, and dramatic cliff walks with breath taking views of our Cornish coastline here on our door step. There’s adventure for everyone of all ages and skill levels …..
Local surf schools at Watergate Bay ( West Country Surf School, Extreme Academy & O’neils) and Mawgan Porth (King Surf) beaches offer surf lessons with enthusiastic qualified instructors for all ages and ability, with wet suit and board hire to set you up for the whole day. For the more adventurous – Coasteering – exploring the rugged coast line from sea level, with experienced and qualified leaders. Sea safari’s and fishing trips allow you to see the beauty of our Cornish Coast from a different perspective, and where dolphins and seals are often spotted.
Body boarding is very popular, and huge fun for everyone, both in the shallows and catching some of those bigger waves! Our local beaches are patrolled by fully trained and experienced life guards (usually from Easter until the end of September, between 9am and 6pm approx), so you and your family can feel safe in the water, following their guidelines.
Mawgan Porth Beach is an absolute favourite with families – a rolling expanse of golden sand as the tide goes out, revealing rock pools full of miniature sea life – pools large enough to swim in sometimes – rocks for climbing and a fun shallow stream leading in to the sea. Ideal for children of all ages – surfing, body boarding, buckets, spades and fishing nets – all day family fun! King Surf surf school is based here for surf lessons. Less than half a mile from Kernow Trek, approx 30 – 35 mins walk following the National Trust cliff path. Life guards are present Easter – early Autumn.
Bedruthen Steps beach is a real adventure, although unsuitable for visitors with limited mobility. The beach is accessed via steep steps cut in to the cliff face, with safety grab rails on the way down. Definitely not a bathing beach, but a dramatic feast of stacks and arches formed by the sea over the years, that beautiful clear sea and often undisturbed sand – never fails to captivate visitors. Watch the tide – it sweeps in very quickly here, so timing your visit for low tide is important.
Watergate Bay – well what can I say – the tide goes out to reveal a huge expanse of golden sand – it is what it is – an amazing beach! A surfers haven, also very popular with other sporting events including zap cats and beach polo. Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen restaurant over looks Watergate Bay. Less than half a mile from Kernow Trek, approx 30 – 35 mins walk along the National Trust cliff path – amazing views! Life guards are present Easter – early Autumn. Surf lesson available here with O’neils surf school.
Amble as far as you like along the National Trust Coast Path – only 5 mins walk from Kernow Trek Lodge to join the coastal path, revealing stunning views (which ever direction you go!) of the North Cornwall Coast, hidden bays, flora and bird life.
Local Golf courses in Newquay, St Eval, Trevose and Perranporth. Kite surfing at Watergate bay, jet ski at Lusty Glaze in Newquay, paddle boarding at Harlyn Surf School, horse riding in and around Newquay – including beach rides.
Cycle the Camel Trail, staring at Padstow or Wadebridge – a fantastic fun day out exploring the Camel Estuary, and beyond if you have the energy, with a Cornish Pasty picnic to keep you going! Bike hire available.
Discover the charm of local fishing harbours and villages, and indulge in the best local cuisine – from our village pub and farm shop, to Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen at Watergate Bay – just 2 minutes from Kernow Trek by Car – and Rick Stein Restaurants in Padstow. Enjoy Fun packed days at local theme parks and zoo’s, Minnack theatre, Cinema and bowling, country houses, Eden Project – or simply chill out on our sunny decking with a good book – there really is something for everyone!
On a more practical note, there are several Supermarkets in Newquay town (approx 3 miles), including Morrisons, Tesco Express, Sainsburys, Asda, Lidl and Aldi. On line shopping and delivery is available from selected stores. Newquay is also convenient for banks, cash points, numerous shops, cinema, bowling, cafe’s and restaurants offering a good choice of food to suit everyone’s taste. Newquay harbour is often a hive activity, with local fishing boats coming and going, gig races, sea safari’s and fishing trips. Also residence to a very lazy seal !
Newquay hosts the bustling Boardmasters event in August, whilst the music festival takes place at Watergate Bay. Check out this years dates and line up on the Boardmasters web site.
Local shops in Mawgan Porth (less than half a mile) include Cornish Fresh Store, selling take away hot drinks, food, and local organic produce. Betty’s News Agent and store also in Mawgan Porth, with King Surf surf school, a selection of gift shops, mini golf, cafes, ‘Catch’ restaurant and Merrymore Inn. There is a cash machine, with charge for use. As you follow the coast road out of Mawgan Porth towards Kernow Trek, Bre-Pen Farm is on your right, selling delicious home made bread, cakes and scones, jams and chutney’s, local farm produce including eggs and bacon for example.
Highly recommended by all our guests over the years – the Travellers Rest Pub – right here in Trevarrian – fab food!
In the village of St Mawgan (just a 2 minute drive past Newquay Airport, or a beautiful 30 min walk through fields) there is a local gift shop, Post office and lovely tea rooms next to our local primary school. Great food at the Falcon Inn, and beautiful church over looking the village green and small children’s play area. A very peaceful place, lovely to sit in the tea rooms or on the village green and just listen to nature. Yet a very active community – often a fun event happening here!
Padstow (approx 8 miles) offers a great seafood choice with a number of Rick Stein restaurants to choose from, tasty pasties and cream teas of course! A quaint, busy fishing harbour, with amazing views across the Camel Estuary. Bike hire is available here – a great fun day out, cycling as far as you wish along the camel trail.
Truro City is approx 17 miles, with its elegant cathedral, a good choice of shops, cinema and restaurants. Park and ride recommended.
We are Andrew and Rosie Pearman. We have lived our dream of living in Cornwall since 2005, running a very busy and successful B&B here at Kernow Trek Lodge. Now we have shelved the frying pan, and converted our home, Kernow Trek, into 4 self catering holiday apartments. We have four wonderful children, all adults now, 2 of whom live here at home with us, our eldest daughter and son-in-law living in Goonhavern, and our son and daughter-in-law in Redruth. We all love the chilled Cornish way of life, our gorgeous beaches and breath taking views, that turquoise sea and everything Cornish! We consider it a privilege to live in such a beautiful part of the world, and look forward to sharing what we love with our guests. Our aim is for your holiday to be everything you want it to be, so we are on hand, but only if you should need help with anything at all during your stay. Please do contact us with your holiday enquiry – we look forward to welcoming you to our home!

“Cherrytrees in Padstow for the best Cream Tea in Cornwall.

“Beautiful apartment … Great location for golf, beach and sight seeing close to Padstow and Newquay. Will recommend to family and friends.
Owners very welcoming but not intrusive. Had a great 3 days ”
“If you are looking for a clean and truly comfortable place to stay then this is it. Lovely, relaxed and modern accommodation a minute away from fabulous Mawgan Porth and minutes from Watergate or Newquay, with wonderful Padstow a few extra minutes in the other direction. We have stayed in Pebble as a couple and Sand Castle as a family. Perfect. Rosie and Andrew cannot do enough for you. We will be back!”
“At Mawgan Porth just down the hill there is a wonderful beach with a few shops and eateries. We are big fans of Coasta Coffee, the fish and chip shop and Catch, a wonderful, chilled out restaurant. We didn’t go to the pub this time but that’s good too. The crazy golf was a hit. Fab place for a day at the beach.”
“Lovely hosts, gorgeous apartment. Loved the way we could borrow beach equipment, wetsuits etc, saved us a fortune!”
“Bedruthan steps is a must see as long as you don’t have any mobility problems, travellers rest pub lovely meals but not budget. trevarrian holiday park great for bowling, value meals for families, entertainment etc and is a 2 min walk from apartments. ”
Fantastic little hidden gem.. Couldn’t ask for more, lovely safe fenced garden for my son and French Bulldog.. Spotless inside, cosy and very comfortable. Kitchen better equipped than at home. Loved our stay here..
“Beautifully clean apartment in which a lot of care had obviously gone into the beach themed decor. All mod cons and fantastic location for the beach. Very friendly but non-intrusive hosts who clearly wanted their guests to have a wonderful and memorable time.”
“Mawgan Porth (2 minutes by car) has shop, restaurant, fish and chips and great beach for walking/surfing”
The Apartment was spacious and comfortable. The Kitchen was very well equipped and spotless. Nice private garden too.
The owners were friendly and helpful. Ideal location to visit Cornwall, close to Newquay, on the north coast.
“A really fantastic accommodation with absolutely everything you could need. Really friendly couple who were happy to help. Highly recommended! ”
“Rosie and Andrew are friendly hosts that are there if you need them or athey are happy to stay in the background if you so wish.
The location of the holiday accommodation is ideal for walks to Newquay, watergate Bay and, Mawgan Porth so, there’s not always the need to use your car. The accommodation is clean, comfortable and very modern and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again.”
“There is a local watering hole just around the corner and the local village shop in Mawgan Porth has a lovely hidden tea room. You can walk off your excesses to the beach opposite the tea room. Anyone looking to be pampered then I would highly recommend the scarlet spa which overlooks the Mawgan Porth beach. You can sit in the outdoor hot tub whilst watching surfers.
“SandCastle is afirst class apartment to enjoy your holiday in cornwall. It is very spacious and comfortable it has everything you wish to find for cooking etc and other things to enjoy your holiday. We will definitely return.”
“Watergate bay is very close as is Porth beach good bus service to Newquay and Padstow where there is good restuarants and night life.
“We spent a gorgeous, relaxing week at Kernow Trek. The apartment was a home from home for my husband and I and our two young daughters. It was clean, modern, contained everything we needed and so comfortable. We loved the garden area and our girls loved having the freedom to go into the garden and see the pets and Rosie and Andrew. As hosts, they are wonderful – not at all intrusive, but so kind and helpful and knowledgeable about the area and fun days out for our little ones.
We were all sad to leave and agree that we definitely plan to go back!”
“All the local beaches are beautiful, but the closest are the best so you really have no need to travel far! The local pub serves great food and has really friendly staff. There are multiple things to do, but when not at the beach, we went to Crealys Adventure Park and Lappa Valley Steam Railway, which were perfect for our 5- and 3-year-olds.
We did some grown-up outings too and can recommend lunch at Fifteen and, a bit further up the coast, Rick Stein’s fish and chips at Padstow.
